Green Business Fund Grants Available

The North Carolina Green Business Fund (NCGBF) is offering grants for small NC based for-profit businesses (with 100 or fewer employees) and non-profit organizations with projects that directly benefit NC small businesses.

The grants are awarded to applicants whose proposals:

  • Reduce energy usage
  • Implement renewable energy measures
  • Promote the use of building energy efficiency
  • Create or retain jobs

Consideration will be given to proposed projects that leverage non-federal funds.  Additional considerations will also be given to proposed projects that benefit economically distressed regions: NC Tier One and Tier Two counties (see a list of 2011 county tier designations here).

The maximum amount of funding available for all awards is approximately $3,000,000. The maximum grant amount is $500,000 and applicants are eligible for only one award under the funding opportunity. However, if an applicant wants further funding for more than one project, the applicant must include all projects in one application. Only projects with a minimum scope of $100,000 will be considered (see additional details here). No matching funds are required for this opportunity.

This funding is available through the North Carolina State Energy Office from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. I have attached the details of this opportunity. The deadline for applications is 2pm on March 30th. Applicants are required to complete an online submission using the Board’s sciGrants system.
