What To Do If You If You Did Not Receive NC's Extra Credit Grant

Written by Adam Boatsman | May 26, 2021 1:32:24 PM

As part of its COVID relief, NC made a payment of $335 to families with eligible children (age 16 or younger) to help defray the costs of remote learning.  The payment was made at the end of 2020 and was based on the number of eligible children noted on your 2019 tax returns.  Unfortunately, there was an issue with some tax preparation software programs that misstated the number of children on the NC return.  Your returns may have been affected, and you may have not received the NC Extra Credit Grant payment.

The state has acknowledged the issue and has opened an application process for those that did not receive the payment.  If you did not receive the grant, please log onto https://www.ncdor.gov/extracredit before July 1, and complete the application.  The application process is quite simple.  You will need to make a few certifications related to your 2019 returns, and provide the name(s) and SSN(s) for your qualifying children.  The application can be completed online or via a mail-in form.  However, this should be done soon, as the extension is only through July 1, 2021.
